Sitehoppin is a social network similar to StumbleUpon which has experienced some issues over the past 12 hours. Due to a problem with the domain, visitors to websites with the Sitehoppin widget have been redirected to a holding domain. Participating websites have lost their traffic.
Sitehoppin was a social networking site which cloned StumbleUpon, allowing visitors to submit links and surf to random sites. The site encouraged website owners to install their widget, offering credits and traffic in return.
The problem has now been resolved and I'll be putting my widget back online. There's no longer any need to remove your widget, but I'm hoping Max will update the widget to prevent any problems in future.
Original Post:
Sitehoppin seems to have disappeared, and if you still have the widget on your site, you need to remove it right now. Because the original webpage no longer exists, the widget doesn't work as intended and is hijacking your traffic, redirecting it to a page of ads. If the widget is in your blog sidebar, you're losing every single visitor.
Please remove the widget and spread the word. If you have any further info, please leave a comment below.
Looks like max from zedomax needs to explain himself.
ReplyDeleteLawsuits are started this way when people accuse others of wrongdoing. I would say get the thing clear before accusing Max. There could be many reasons for the redirection. Your post was very vague, so I'm not sure where you encountered this problem. If it's from your own blog, maybe it could be blogger doing something instead?
ReplyDeleteThere could be many reasons. Talk to the source first.
A few examples I found with Google:
ReplyDeletewww.125exchange.com
www.shaunjudy.com
thebobofiles.blogspot.com
zedomax.net
www.jackiesbizblog.com
All of the above redirect to sitehoppin.com as soon as the Sitehoppin widget loads. The Sitehoppin page now contains a domain holding page and the only links are to ads.
Please can someone confirm the above.
I'm not accusing Max or anyone else of any wrongdoing. I'm simply stating any visitors to sites with the Sitehoppin widget are now redirected and the site with the widget loses their traffic.
I'm sure this is just a huge cock up.
Sitehoppin is now back online, with the following message.
ReplyDelete"Alert! - SiteHoppin DOWN for 2-3 hours today, now backup!"
I think it was close to 12 hours, but at least there's some good news :-)
Hmmm... same problem again. I think I'll wait a day or two before putting my widget back.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste your time. The domain is gone. Take a look at the WHOIS information. It was modified yesterday and now being parked. The owner is getting money from the ads displayed on the parked page. Easy way to make some money!
ReplyDeleteSitehoppin is up and here's Max's response:

ReplyDeleteI had discussed the issue with Turnip and other friends, previously.
That means having such widgets can cause trouble.
I am thinking what else?
